AN INTRODUCTION

At Niango, we do fashion differently.

We believe that fashion is more than just a tool for self-expression. We believe that fashion is the ultimate vehicle for change.

Our business model follows the principles of Community Economic Development, which means we work with communities of women, especially women facing hardship, to enhance economic opportunities and promote inclusive and sustainable growth.

We use fashion as way to increase opportunities for women to work and collaborate with female entrepreneurs, artists and artisans. We do this to promote personal and professional well-being, and this collective effort results in beautiful clothing collections.

At Niango, we believe that women can truly support one another through the purchase of our products, support of our social programs, and/or by joining our Niango community.

our Mission

At Niango, we know there are women facing hardship who feel stuck in their current reality and who can’t see a way forward. We believe all women, especially those who have been constrained by their circumstances, deserve an opportunity to build a better life.

That’s why we aim to provide personal development and economic opportunities for women, through the process of creating our beautiful clothing collections, so that they can start building a more positive and sustainable life.

OUR BUSINESS MODEL

We pride ourselves in our ability to help generate a positive and sustainable impact on women’s lives, and this is possible through the four pillars of our business model:

• Community Art Project. We design our collection with a community of women facing a specific type of hardship. Then with the collections release, we organize an event to raise awareness around the issue, raise funds for the cause, and bring women together to support one another in our growing community.

• Garment production. We are proud of our garment production approach, which favours work and collaboration with female entrepreneurs, artisans, and artists, especially those coming from or working with underprivileged communities.

• Sustainability and Wealth Creation. We really value sustainability, so we produce quality products that are ethical in nature, and we firmly believe in compensating our collaborators fairly.

• Wealth Redistribution. We are focused on sharing our profits by re-investing in our company, by funding our social programs (like our community art project), and by donating to the organizations and communities of women who take part in our social programs.

OUR MANIFESTO

Dear Sister

How many times have we been witnesses or victims of the suffering and silence that affect the daily lives of women?

It takes courage to be a woman.

It takes courage to free ourselves from the gaze and the perception imposed on us by others. It takes courage to refuse to let ourselves be affected by the projections of others.

It takes courage to break free from the barriers that hinder our vital need to accomplish ourselves. It takes courage to join another woman in her becoming and to lift each other up in solidarity and sisterhood.

We believe that a woman should have the right to think, act and speak for herself. She should be able to put herself back in the center of her own life and to embody her freedom, whatever that means for her. And while this may take courage, a woman should never feel that she is alone.

At Niango, we believe that sisterhood is powerful. We believe that when women have a circle of other supportive women around them, they become stronger, can go further, and will feel more fulfilled in their lives, careers and businesses.

This is why we have built our beautiful community of women supporting women. We offer women a safe space to exercise their voice, improve their skills, and gain back control of their time, lives and bodies so that they can participate meaningfully in the fashion industry.

OUR FOUNDER

I have found, both in fashion and in creation, fundamental tools for emancipation that I want to share with other women.

All through my childhood and throughout my adult life, I have witnessed the suffering and silencing of women. This, in addition to stereotypes about women and the problem with body image, can severely impact a woman’s self-esteem and can even annihilate her desire for personal fulfilment.

I reproduced these cycles myself until I gradually learned to deconstruct limiting beliefs and worked to resolve my own body image issues, aided by education and inspired by the journeys of other women. I firmly believe that every woman deserves to live her life on her own terms, and that every woman has the fundamental right to think, act and speak for herself. Today, my passions, my commitments and my professional choices revolve around promoting and supporting women.

Niango was born from a desire to combine my African culture, my passion for fashion, my commitment to women and my profession in economic and community development in the same project.

My goal is to create beautiful collections, and in the process, I hope to offer women a safe space to exercise their voice, improve their skills, and gain back control of their time, lives and bodies so that they too can participate meaningfully in the fashion industry.

I invite anyone willing to contribute to join me in this mission.
